Anonymous rest is a powerful web-based service that allows anonymous users to access any website or resource on the internet. It is a mechanism by which multiple anonymous users can share a common pool of resources with each other. The common feature among these services is that they are free and offer various features. There are also different types of this type of service available for different purposes. HTTP anonymous rest service is one such type of service. This type allows an authenticated user to make use of any web resource without revealing his real IP address. Every time he requests a web page, the IP address of that particular web page is passed along to the client so as to enable him to make use of the page. However, the IP address is not visible to the client; instead it is passed along on the request from the server. The server will then return the requested information to the anonymous user's IP address. This is a good feature, as there would be no risk involved to the website or its server. Any user accessing a website will get access only if he has a valid user ID and password. However, a website or server running this new API cannot provide any other services to its users as it disallows every request coming from anonymous user accounts. This type of service also restricts the access of the system for the use of non-authenticated users. The next type of anonymous user API is the Kerberos anonymous API. It is another module that offers a way to securely communicate with Active Directory users. It supports Kerberos authentication, which is a highly privileged mode of authentication where an authenticated user can log in without exposing his identity. This makes it impossible for anyone else to gain access to this user's data or activities. Apart from that, it can be controlled remotely too, if Kerberos is implemented. This is especially useful for businesses that require remote access to their systems. The 'anon' keyword in the anonymous access URL makes the session cookie important for the server-side programs. It contains information that identifies the user logging on. If the cookie used by the server is not authentic, then the whole system could be attacked and blocked. An authentication provider, such as 'nahost', 'restrict', 'profile' and 'ldap' can help in controlling the usage of this 'Restricted Restricted Resource.' Most of the anonymous access authentication providers available today use the 'ldap' algorithm as the key for creating the session cookie. The most commonly used implementation technique is 'ldap' is built in with the OpenLDAP project and is available as a module for the Apache server. However, it has been noted that this implementation is vulnerable to attacks. Therefore, many software developers are working hard in developing more secure anonymous access providers. An example of an 'external key' used for anonymous access control is the Kerberos authorization. This feature of Kerberos enables authentication of anonymous users without knowing the users' real name or address. The idea behind this feature is to allow anonymous users to access a system without having to reveal their details. This feature of anonymous access control is widely used by web servers, email systems and all types of networks. There are now many companies offering services that offer anonymous access control solutions. Many of these companies offer free anonymous proxy and anonymous rest sharing services.
